Units installed today, on average, last 10-12 years. There are many different variables: proper installation, maintenance, and service. Your preferences and the climate where the unit is installed also factor into the life of your system.  Professional installation by a reputable business, like Hometown Comfort, is critical to getting the most system longevity. After your units are installed, the lifespan of your equipment depends on how well you maintain and service the system.

  • How long can I expect my system to last and what can I do to help prolong the life of my system?

Your equipment’s lifespan varies greatly depending on the care and maintenance you provide. The key to extending the lifespan of your equipment is to have a certified technician check your system to make sure all components of the system are working at 100% efficiency. This will keep operating costs down and help you avoid any possible problems.

Efficiency. Effectiveness. Reliability. The best systems are highly efficient, operating on the least amount of electricity needed to keep your utility bills as low as possible. When properly maintained, your system provides steady, dependable performance year after year. Good systems are long-lasting, quiet, and have minimal service needs.

  • How do I know how energy efficient my unit is?

By law, air conditioner manufacturers are required to evaluate and rate their equipment based on its energy efficiency. This rating is known as a Seasonal Energy Efficiency Rating (SEER) in the industry. The higher the SEER rating, the more efficient the equipment will be.

Most new homes come with central heating and air conditioning systems that are standard builder’s models. When it’s time to replace your system, you can upgrade to a more energy-efficient one.

High SEER models may be higher in price, but you’ll make up the difference by reducing energy bills.

  • What does the word “ton” mean when it comes to air conditioning?
